Awesome Testimonial | Ashley + Nathan | 06.12.09 | Palladium Hotel
12.29.2009 in Main, Weddings | by Matt Adcock

We got this testimonial a few weeks ago from one of our brides this spring / summer at the awesome Palladium Hotel. Her words are awesome. I'm constantly reminded of the challenge our clients face while planning their wedding virtually. Keep in mind, we had never met and or spoken to this bride on the phone prior to the wedding day, as everything had been done all via email.

Thank you for the humbling message Ashley!

Saludos,
matt

Pre-Wedding
Choosing a photographer was very difficult for me. I had already determined that I would allot a large portion of the budget for photos because in the end they are what you have to remember your day. I did A LOT of research on photographers, I can’t even tell you how many online galleries I went through over and over, but I was always drawn back to Del Sol, for so many reasons. I originally booked Diego one of their associate photographers for the wedding and Sol for the TTD. But right around my wedding date Diego actually left Del Sol, so Matt covered my wedding, which was the best wedding gift I could have ever gotten! The whole Del Sol team was great to work with leading up to the wedding, I know how busy they are in the spring and summer but they always made sure to answer my emails and even my phone calls. About my wedding time they added an office manager, Melissa who absolutely rocks, she will make sure you have all your stuff in order before, during and after your wedding; it was great to have a contact to go to with questions.

Wedding
The wedding was at 4pm, and Matt arrived in the lobby about 1.5 hours before, his associate photographer went to shoot the boys who were playing pool in the bar near the gazebo. Matt arrived and was a breath of fresh air, it had been a CRAZY morning due to some issues with the Apple Vacations rep... Matt arrived, very excited and started shooting away, I really had no plan for locations to shoot, etc. But Matt had it all under control, he made me feel so at ease and confident, he even tried to get all the girls to smile and laugh, he was great, my grandmother thought he was the cutest thing ever. It was about 8 million degrees on the wedding day, and I am pretty sure I sweated off all my makeup, but Matt managed to make me look amazing in his photos, they shot from all different angles and really captured those moments that I didn’t even think about, moments that you didn’t even realized happened until you look at your photos, these are the best moments.
After the ceremony we headed to the saltwater pool to take some group shots. They turned out amazing, even though it was super windy. I had a few requests for traditional shots and Matt got them all, he even captured an amazing arial shot, which was the one thing I wanted since I started planning the wedding, it is now printed huge and on the wall in my living room. The bridal party and the hubby and I then just headed down the beach, stopping along the way to grab drinks and just celebrate, then Nathan and I broke off to take some photos….I don’t know how he does it but Matt seemed to capture Nathan and I in are “us” moments. I really wanted some photos with the sunset, and evening light such a beautiful backdrop for photos, and of course Matt delivered. These are some of my favorite photos, so romantic I am serious when I say my heart still skips when I look at these particular shots…
Matt and Rodrigo (who was also very sweet) stayed through the dance; Matt charmed the pants off my Grandma. He made sure to get shots of her reading the poem that my Grandpa wrote for her when he was in Vietnam, my mom read this poem at our ceremony, I am glad he did this, they are photos that we will always have of that moment…
Matt is so talented it is ridiculous, I could go on and on…

Post Wedding
Ahhh. The day the pictures arrived. I sat at my desk frozen; I couldn’t wait to see them… I started clicking through the slideshow and tears filled my eyes. It literally felt like I was back in Mexico, on my wedding day..The pictures just brought me right back there. I clicked thorough them hundreds of times, just crying…. My eyes glued to the screen. They were so beautiful and indescribable and you could just feel the moments through them….they were priceless. They still give me the goosebumps when I look through them. I forwarded the link to EVERYONE… peoples comments were the best to hear, most of them commented they were the most beautiful photos they had ever seen, I still get compliments about them 6 months later. I had an at home reception in August after our June wedding and Del Sol worked so hard to get me my photos by then so I could display them. I had 8x10’s everywhere and people were just awed, they would just gather around the picture area, jaws dropped. Wow was pretty much the general consensus. I would just smile and say “I know….”

So you can about gather from this review what my thoughts are on Del Sol….Best decision I made about the wedding (besides the groom) Honestly they will deliver, your photos will be amazing…and you won’t worry about a thing. The talent Matt and Sol possess is truly a gift, and they are so consistent in their work, this is reassuring for brides. Do not hesitate; don’t think twice, the Del Sol Team is the way to go…

12.14.2009 in Trash the Dress, Main, Trash The Dress | by Matt Adcock

We have been working with some new equipment recently, trying to literally change our perspective on the entire Trash the dress phenomenon that is sweeping across this planet.

I have a love for the water and have been diving the cenotes in the Riviera Maya over the last few years and finding spots that will enable certain types of photography that pretty much can not be duplicated by any one quick visitor. Anyway, I've recently been shooting a little... here are some results.

Sol snapped this of me when I was down in the cave shooting. Below are my photo results.

This shot was from about 15 feet below the surface. There was a complete overhang above. PS... thanks Bahar & Brad for being such awesome sports!

Here is another location, from a very nice depth, more than 20 feet down and a good 15 feet under an overhang. The shot below is what my view was when I looked to one side... just WOW. PS. Thanks Karen for rocking it out with us!

hope to have more fun shots soon!

Mateo

11.07.09 Jason + Monica | Photos by Matt Adcock
12.09.2009 in Weddings, Main | by Matt Adcock

I've seen a lot over my short career...situations where brides absolutely loose control and let the smallest trivial things upset or ruin their experience... I'm talking some super trivial stuff like somebody stepped on the gown or the dress actually touched the ground before they walked down the isle. Its really all I can take to shrug it off and keep on shooting.

Recently, I had a wedding in the Riviera Maya (11.07.09) where the client had planned an all out awesome adventure. They rented 3 beach homes in a private neighborhood, planned the wedding in the Blue Cacao beach club on an awesome stretch of beach but did NOT EXPECT the hurricane / tropical storm IDA to put a dash of rain on their plans....lots of rain. I've been involved in a wedding whose path completely changed due to a hurricane in the past, but that was in August, high hurricane season. This storm was on 11.7, a week or more past hurricane season....so needless to say, this was a completely unexpected storm.

What went wrong....Well, Monica + Jason would tell you that their 3 beach homes lost all power so they had to get ready in a hotel. The Blue Cacao's indoor location is one thats not totally 100% hurricane proof with one open side that couldnt be closed off, therefore the plan for the entire wedding + reception was cancelled there and moved to a restaurant in Playa del Carmen.... Negrosal Restaurant.

For 80 guests, Negrosal is very very small because the ceremony would be taking place in their basement....A small room with a bar and a dance floor, but could be converted to ceremony stage with some seats and standing room. The plan was made and everything went forward... Sounds like a bride's worst nightmare however what one doesnt realize is that the worlds biggest problems (at that time) were the biggest gifts. Jason + Monica like ALL of our other clients, write to us telling they are planning a party of their closest friends and family and that they were very interested in sharing as many intimate moments with them as possible.

IDA, the tropical storm from nowhere had actually placed them in an atmosphere where their friends and family were WAY closer to each other than they would have been when spread out on a beach... Every moment and emotional exchange was amplified 10 fold due to the tightness of their group on the big wedding day. I believe this to be the most amazing blessing in disguise for Jason + Monica. The wedding and reception were a total success. The storm actually brought everybody closer together! Their wedding story tells the tale...

Wedding Coordination by Erica & Maria from Weddings IN Playa.com. Special thanks to both of them for making this day happen...They were stars on this big day!

This is a quick shot from my laptop as I was walking out the door...Yikes, looks like we will be getting wet.

This image sequence is one of my favorites..

.

.

Not much time for "portraits" because of the rain...rain...rain

I snapped this moment to remember the rain..

.

But what I had to rely on was real moments for my portraits, unstaged, real live moments.

.

I love this reflection photo.. Its difficult to try and figure out what is happening here. There was a reflective table about 10 feet away from the people in this shot. Its actually a restroom lobby area where people were haning out for a moment...a quick grab as I was passing the room.

.

The toasts from this wedding made me realize what a tight group of these folks were. Eveybody was so involved with all the speeches.

11.08.09 Bianca + Robert | Wedding at Villa Vista de la Luz, Isla Mujeres | Photos by Sol
12.04.2009 in Weddings | by Sol Tamargo

Bianca and Robert's wedding is a perfect example of how when love is in the air and two people love each other, "Rain or Shine" - a wedding day is a Magical Day, especially here in the Mexican Carribbean!!

This wedding was held at one of the most amazing villas I've been to on Isla Mujeres, Villa Vista de la Luz

The weather predictions were not good for the day, a hurricane was supposed to hit the Island around 1:00 pm, and wedding ceremony was planned to be outside on the pier... We arrived a day early to make sure we weren't going to miss this event (the Port Authority was scheduled to close down the port - we wouldn't have made it had we traveled the day of!)

Despite the impending hurricane, we forged ahead, made the necessary adjustments to the schedule, location, etc...

And here is the fairy tale as it unfolded:

Here are a few of my favorites:

This is how the weather looked like on our drive to the Villa!

Despite having been stuck on the island for a few days, with their personal belongings still back at their hotels on the mainland, once we got there, everybody was getting ready and smiling!

Rodrigo's photo

The view from the balcony was spectacular, all cloudy and raining a little bit. But not nearly as amazing as this bride, keeping level headed under the circumstances, and still looking as gorgeous as can be!

I LOVE this image that Rodrigo captured of Robert going up the stairs for the ceremony!

All the girls are excited, tears and smiles, the moment is here!

Ceremony had to be moved inside. (Rodrigo's photo)

Rain or shine, they are married!

The rain stopped

So we went outside for pictures

Bianca was a breathtaking spectacle

Both Bianca and Robert looked like King and Queen out of a fairy tale, so good looking, so full of love for each other!

Look at those eyes!

This is the Father of the groom, throwing a kiss to the newlyweds. He is wearing shorts as he couldn't go back to his hotel in Cancun. Due to the hurricane, the port was close for navigation; he was fantastic, full of energy all day long, even in his golfing best!

First dance

I'm always grateful for help :) this girl kindly held my flash.

Dancing was awesome! These folks had some really cool moves!

After it all, Hurrican Ida didn't prevent this wedding from happening, it turned out to be a magical day!!
