A Lucky Encounter
06.21.2010 in For photographers, Main | by Matt Adcock

Just wanted to send an update to our clients (past and future) as well as our photog amigos.... thanks for all your support and friendships this year! I'm proud of our team yesterday pushing 7 photographers with 3 different weddings on Saturday, June 19. CONGRATS del Sol Team for pulling this one off!

Our wedding / shooting season officially slows WAY down and will be doing mostly boutique stuff as well as traveling some exploring the country! Vacation time soon :)

Just for inspiration sake...Here is a photo I shot at on May 4th, 2008 of my good friends, Paul and Rachel during their Cosmic Ceremony. This is one of my fav's I've got tucked into my pouch of shots...

This shot was made with the 85mm 1.2 Lens There was clothing from someone's, an object very close to the right and left side of my frame. This causes the blur we see highlighted by a splash of water (a blessing) from one of her guests. This moment super hard to predict and I'd consider several parts of this photo as a lucky encounter :)

More photos coming from past weddings soon!

Beach Fun- new gear aquasitions - water fun
05.20.2010 in Adventures, For photographers, Main, For Photographers | by Matt Adcock

Recently, the del Sol shooting crew (Vincent, Sol and I) were at Al Cielo Hotel, for an afternoon swim, lunch, and a yummy glass of white wine. We had our new 14mm L series lens with us in our underwater housing. This was fun and a test for the lens. The lighting was perfect and we got a few fun shots. This lens is honestly a crazy $$$ piece of metal and glass. Check out the statistics on the lens here.

We always are trying to explore our equipment technology to try and push the envelope with our imagery. Hopefully, this hunk of metal and glass will help us snag a few keepers here and there :)

Flashflavor | Matt Adcock | Royal Playa del Carmen
11.12.2009 in For photographers, Weddings, Main, For Photographers | by Matt Adcock

Since we have quite a bit of wedding photographers who end up reading our blog (as well as potential brides and grooms) I figured I'd write a little post here as a reminder to those togs looking for creative ideas. I talk about my creative flash techniques used over on www.flashflavor.com often enough, so if you want to know how we do what we do, please go check this site out. Comment, provide feedback, ideas, etc. We all learn from sharing, so let us know whats on your mind.

Recently, I shot Tracey & Brent's wedding here at the Royal in Playa del Carmen. On the beach, we have little or NO way to light our subjects, therefor we need to make do with what we have in these low light circumstances. At the end of the day, its all about embracing the ambien, using fast lenses, and adding a subtle light source!

Find out how we balance low ambient light quality with your flash over on Flashflavor.

Thanks for reading :)

WPPI en Espanol | Rangefinder Publishing
10.20.2009 in For photographers, Weddings, Main, Published | by Matt Adcock

Today we got news of a recent publication featuring Sol! This edition is one of WPPI's first digital publications in Spanish. Some of our brides may ask (what the heck is WPPI and why do I care). Well, WPPI is an acronym that stands for Wedding and Portrait Photographers International. Each year, they host a trade show in Las Vegas with over 12,000 attendants. It is one of the largest photographer organizations out there.

They are now reaching out to Spanish speaking Latino Photographers by publishing a newsletter in Espanol. They are featuring industry leading photographers who continue to set the bar and lead the way in their creative field.

I'd like to congratulate Sol for being asked to participate in this first edition WPPI en Espanol! Click HERE to read the article!

My photoshop bud Dave Cross (the photoshop guy) interviewed me on his blog this week. Photoshop has played an integral part in our studio development and we would like to seriously thank the experts at Photoshop User, Kelby Online Training and Lightroom Killer Tips and Layers Magazine.
