FAQ

The del Sol FAQ is a list of commonly asked questions that we have prepared to help the planning process.  Because we are a virtual studio and shoot a high volume of jobs each month, this list of questions can save a LOT of time with email back and forth.
There are 5 sections:

* Booking Questions

* Wedding day

* Packages

* Trash The Dress Photography Sessions

* After wedding

* Albums

We work with many awesome vendors in the Riviera Maya, we recommend you link over to our vendor section (link coming soon) and look at the hotels we frequent. A list can be provided upon request as well.
NO, however hotels may charge additional fees such as Day Passes to allow our photographers access to their private property. Hotels may also have outside vendor fees to allow us on their property.
Del Sol is a photography studio based out of Playa del Carmen, in the Riviera Maya Mexico. We are also based out of Atlanta GA and travel throughout the United States and will accept commissions worldwide. Travel fees may apply to weddings outside our base cities.
Yes, all over the globe. We specialize in travel around the Caribbean Ocean and Mexico.
Yes, unless we are told otherwise. Typically, we spend no more than 10-15 minutes just after the ceremony and photograph immediate families on both brides side as well as grooms side. In addition, we photograph quick formal groupings of the bridal parties.
Because we are storytellers, we practice a style based on Photojournalism. We mix creative portraiture and storytelling. Focusing less on this time and chasing real moments is what we truly excel at.
We formulate our packages by the photographer hourly rate. We have a minimum of 2 hours for all del Sol Photographers.

Yep, all of our packages and every hour of shooting include digital negatives. We provide a signed release so that you may make prints on your own. 18 x 12 posters can be made at local labs pretty affordably.
There is no branding or marking on the High Resolution files.
We shoot everything in color and convert images to B&W during our editing process. We also use proprietary editing techniques for toning and special effects. If an image is delivered in B&W, it is permanently B&W, shot as if it were film and there was no going back.
We also provide online proofing for your guests to purchase images from our pro lab, if they desire. 4x6 s 7.50 USD | 5x7 s 11.00 USD | 8x10 s 18.00 USD | 12x18 s 18.00 USD
Each wedding is a completely different story. We provide an range of images we expect to deliver with each package, found on our price list page, based on realistic goals and shooting methods. Our promise is that we will always deliver our best images, fully edited with the style that del Sol has become synonyous with. We will not stick to our stated delivery range for the sake of sticking to a number. If it's del Sol Photography worthy, we promise you will receive it in your final delivery of images, making your story that much more complete.
Unfortunately, we are unable to reserve a date on our calendar without a contract and a retainer payment.
We ask for 1/2 retainer of the contracted value to save the date and the residual payment 30 days prior to the wedding.
We take commissions for weddings 12 months in advance.
We will need the number of hours that we will be photographing, any A-La-Carte items you desire, and generate a contract and then retainer payment must be made. Generally, contact us via email, info@delsolphotography.com to tell us you are ready to sign the contract and make payment. The entire process must be handled online with our booking software, step by step. Our system is automated to store your contract online and also allow you entrance to your own personal “Client Area” . Accessed with a security code, you can check status of invoice due dates, view contract, and communicate with del Sol. Invoices are automatically generated using this system.
Cash, Check, Major CC’s via Paypal only. www.delsolphotography.com/weddingpayment
Unfortunately, we only take CC via paypal only. We do not have an external terminal for credit card processing. Fees in Mexico for this service are excessive and not a practical business solution.
We provide a slideshow of photographer favorites, found on our client proofing link, www.delsolphotography.com/clientproofing. In addition, we offer online proofing for family and friends with the ability to purchase images. The gallery remains online for 3 months.
For most weddings, 2 photographers will be present to photograph the special day. For events shorter than 2 hours, maybe only 1.
We always aim for the best case scenario, but our standard turn around times vary depending on the season. We usually average: 4-6 weeks July - October, 6-8 weeks October - April, and 8-10 weeks April - July. We will try to have a slideshow of our favorites online first and then ship you the complete set of final images shortly there after. Remember, everything we do involves international shipping. Time during some holidays may cause a slight delay in our turnaround. All stated time frames are subject to change without notice.
We have a team of photographers working for del Sol.  In the rare case that there is an accident or illness, we will rely on one of our team members to shoot the wedding.  In addition, we are highly connected with photographers around the world and have many friends who shoot weddings who can accommodate our style.   In the worse case scenario, we will contact our friends to shoot the event.
Currently, Matt or Sol respond to clients that request meetings. Associate photographers are contracted only to shoot. All other business goes through Matt or Sol at the del Sol Team headquarters. Due to high volume of shooting that we do, we may not be able to meet some clients prior to the weddings. The del Sol studio contracts 160 jobs during the shooting season of 9 months. In fact, more than 95% of our clients book online without meeting us, prior to their wedding day. We definitely encourage a phone call first, to try and answer any other questions and to ease into the comfort of hiring a photographer without meeting them.
In addition, del sol encourages you to read the Reputation and Raves Section (coming soon) section too, just to learn a little bit about who del Sol is. Also, check out the video’s of artists at work. Meetings can only be scheduled 2 weeks in advance with a minimum of 1 week notice.
We don’t actually offer video as a service. We can recommend a videographer that we work well with. We use cameras that also serve as HD video cameras.
If the videographer isnt a del Sol recommended or known vendor, this is difficult because videography requires the shooter to be very close to the action, if their equipment is limited. Teamwork is a must. Not knowing or not liking the style by the named videographer can take a turn for the worse when we photograph a wedding, due to obtrusive positioning of videographer during the ceremony. We recommend pros who use professional audio as well as nice lenses and shoot in the HD format. Pros who also understand how to be as unobtrusive as possible and work with the photography crew like a TEAM on a mission. We have had experiences with some videographers that were anti productive on wedding day, thus taking away from the ability for us to excel. Please let us know who your videographer is or if you would like a reference.
