Cosmic Wedding at Isla de la Pasión – Laura and Ken

Isla de la Pasión –  what a name to make you dream! A dot of sand in the middle of the protected area of Cozumel, Isla de la Pasión is a sacred location for the Mayan people.  The Mayas came to worship Ixchel, their goddess of love and a pilgrimage to the island, which they call Mukyaj Peten, is a part of the marriage ritual.

Laura and Ken chose a “Cosmic Ceremony” a unique marriage blessing from the Riviera Maya. There are many elements to this type of wedding: blessings of flowers, water and the incense copal and all guests are also involved in the ceremony, by speaking, drumming and ringing bells. Here are some of the Shaman’s words from the ceremony:

In the art of marriage, remember, the little things are the big things
The art of marriage is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives
It is remembering to say “I love you” at least once a day
It is never being too old to hold hands
It is standing together facing the world
It is forming a circle of love that gathers the whole family
It is doing things for each other
It is finding room for the things of the spirit
It is the capacity to forgive and forget
It is not only marrying the right partner, it is about being the right partner

Laura and Ken had MANY personal details in their wedding day one of our favs is Laura’s crystal “I do” tattoo, which was a surprise for Ken; he discovered the detail at the end of the ceremony when Laura pointed the I DO

“Ken is what in Mexico we call “un estuche de monerías” – a man of many talents. He stood up and started to play the guitar… so ok, he can play the guitar… then he went for the drums, and for a grand finale  he sung an amazing song to Laura, – and he was great! Such a great host and you could see Laura was so proud of him.

“Laura and Ken had many little surprises and guests were very happy and entertained… also the photographer ;) Like they had a last minute idea to make a little car in cardboard for the entrance to their reception!  No matter how weddings you have shot, you still get “first time” and that’s what makes our job amazing.” – Debora
