Frequently Asked Questions

Can you recommend awesome vendors and hotels?

We work with many awesome vendors and hotels in the Riviera Maya that we’d be happy to share.

What are Del Sol Photography’s costs and pricing?

As a destination wedding photography studio with clients from all over the world, all our clients are unique and important to us. Meaning all of our photography services are custom fitted to your special day, while ensuring world-class images. This makes all of our prices custom to each photo shoot based on a number of factors and recommendations to best suit your needs and wants. Please Contact Us to discuss how we can make magic together :)

Do you charge travel fees in the Rivera Maya?

NO, however hotels may charge additional fees such as Day Passes to allow our photographers access to their private property. Hotels may also have outside vendor fees to allow us on their property.

Where are you located?

Del Sol is a photography studio based out of Playa del Carmen, in the Riviera Maya Mexico. Our local areas include Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Cozumel, Akumal, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and more. We also accept photo shoots across Mexico and internationally, but travel fees may apply to weddings outside our base cities.  We do recommend you use our Seasonal Guide to help plan the wedding ceremony start time.

Do you travel to other cities?

Yes, all over the globe (only last year we covered our first wedding in Thailand, magical event). We also specialize in travel around the Caribbean and Mexico.

Do you shoot formals?

Yes, unless we are told otherwise. Typically, we spend no more than 10-15 minutes just after the ceremony and photograph immediate families on both brides side as well as grooms side. In addition, we photograph quick formal groupings of the bridal parties.

I have a small wedding, less than 10-15 guests. What is your minimum time requirement?

We formulate our packages by the photographer hourly rate. We have a minimum of 3 hours for all del Sol Photographers.  We can customize a package for any occasion or any circumstance ;) Just let us konw.

Do you provide High Resolution files?

Yes. All of our packages and every hour of shooting includes fully processed High-Resolution JPGs. We provide a signed release so that you may make prints on your own. 18 x 12 posters can be made at local labs at affordable rates.

Will the files on the disk be marked with a logo?

There is no branding or marking on the High Resolution files. However we do provide a second set of images that are in a lower resolution format for distribution on social networking sites with our studio’s logo.

Do you shoot black and white or color or mix?

We shoot everything in color and convert images to B&W during our editing process. We also use proprietary editing techniques for toning and special effects. If an image is delivered in B&W, it is permanently B&W, shot as if it were film and there was no going back.

Do you provide online proofing?

Yes! You can view full folios at http://www.delsolphotography.com/RedCart

How many photos do you take?

Each wedding is a completely different story. We provide a range of images we expect to deliver with each package, found on our price list page, based on realistic goals and shooting methods. Our promise is that we will always deliver our best images, fully edited with the style that del Sol has become synonyous with. We will not stick to our stated delivery range for the sake of sticking to a number. If it’s del Sol Photography worthy, we promise you will receive it in your final delivery of images, making your story that much more complete.

Can you pencil us in or hold our date?

As it turns out, we are unable to reserve a date on our calendar without a contract and a retainer payment.

How do you require payments to be broken down?

We ask for 1/2 retainer of the contracted value to save the date and the residual payment due in person in cash on your event date.

How far in advance will you book?

We take commissions for weddings 12 months in advance.

What do we need to do to book you?

We will need the number of hours that we will be photographing, any A-La-Carte items you desire, and generate a contract and then retainer payment must be made. Generally, contact us via email, info[at]delsolphotography.com to tell us you are ready to sign the contract and make payment. The entire process must be handled online with our booking software, step by step. Our system is automated to store your contract online and also allow you entrance to your own personal “Client Area”.  Accessed with a security code, you can check status of invoice due dates, view contract, and communicate with del Sol. Invoices are automatically generated using this system.

What form of payment do you take?

Cash is preferred and Major Credit Cards are accepted via Paypal only for the retainer payment.

I would like to call and give you a CC number over the phone?

As it turns out, we only take CC via paypal only. We do not have an external terminal for credit card processing. Fees in Mexico for this service are excessive and not a practical business solution.

How do we see our images?

We provide a slideshow of photographer favorites, a disc of all final images, and all final images on our Client Proofing Site: http://www.delsolphotography.com/RedCart

How many photographers will be at my weddings?

What makes our style so dynamic is the fact that we always shoot events from at least two perspectives. This means our two photographers are capturing so many moments and often the same moments from different perspectives.

What is your turn around time?

We always aim for the best case scenario, but our standard turn around times are 8 – 12 weeks. We will try to have a slideshow of our favorites online first and then ship you the complete set of final images shortly there after. Remember, everything we do involves international shipping. Time during some holidays may cause a slight delay in our turnaround. All stated time frames are subject to change without notice.

Do you have a back-up plan just in case the photographer booked is not able to do our photography after signing the contract?

We have a team of photographers working for del Sol.  In the rare case that there is an accident or illness, we will rely on one of our team members to shoot the wedding.  In addition, we are highly connected with photographers around the world and have many friends who shoot weddings who can accommodate our style.   In the worse case scenario, we will contact our friends to shoot the event.

Do we get a chance to meet with our photographer before the wedding?

Currently, Matt or Sol respond to clients that request meetings. Associate photographers are contracted only to shoot. All other business goes through Matt or Sol at the del Sol Team headquarters. Due to high volume of shooting that we do, we may not be able to meet some clients prior to the weddings. The del Sol studio contracts 300 per year and handles +3000 inquiries each year, this often make meetings challenging – especially during our busiest season – October – June. More than 95% of our clients book online without meeting us prior to their wedding day.

Do you shoot Video?

We do not offer video in our packages.

How do you feel about working with hotel / resort or independent videographers?

If the videographer isn’t a del Sol recommended or known vendor, this is difficult because videography requires the shooter to be very close to the action, if their equipment is limited. Teamwork is a must. Not knowing or not liking the style by the named videographer can take a turn for the worse when we photograph a wedding, due to obtrusive positioning of videographer during the ceremony. We recommend pros who use professional audio as well as nice lenses and shoot in the HD format. Pros who also understand how to be as unobtrusive as possible and work with the photography crew like a TEAM on a mission. We have had experiences with some videographers that were anti-productive on wedding day, thus taking away from the ability for us to excel. Please let us know who your videographer is.
