Cancun Wedding at Riu Palace Peninsula – Phoebe and Albert
The Cancun wedding of Phoebe and Albert was a delightful day full of fun and tradition. The couple is originally from Hong Kong, now making their home in Toronto, and they brought a taste of the culture with them to Cancun. The day began with the “pick up”, a fun tradition which requires the groom to pass a few tests before being allowed to claim his bride. After brushing the teeth with wasabi and a few other challenging and hilarious tests, groom Albert passed and won the right to Phoebe’s hand (these may be the most unique “getting ready” photos we’ve shot, see if you can figure out what his challenges were!) Bride Phoebe was gorgeous in her gown by Mori Lee and her custom-made shoes with her bridesmaids pretty in pink beside her. The ceremony under a chupah in the garden was full of light and joy. Wedding coordinator Jared Orrico of the Riu Resorts put together a perfect day for the couple, blending the cultures and creating a fairy tale event.
The Photographer was there to capture all the emotions and details, she shared her thoughts on this Cancun wedding day:
I totally enjoyed shooting this wedding! “Double happiness” was the main theme and logo of this wedding (symbol on the window). They are from Hong Kong originally, and now live in Toronto.I didn’t know that in Chinese tradition the groom needs to win the honor to see his bride, so he needed to do a lot of things to win his bride (cue the banana!). Nothing can’t explain how amazing these people were… you could see the smiles and the joy in everyone at this celebration.
So double happiness to you guys! May your days be built with double happiness and red umbrellas flying in the sky. – Mel
