Top Cancun – Riviera Maya Church Wedding Venues

When we think about destination weddings in Cancun and the Riviera Maya we don’t often think of church weddings! We imagine exchanging vows on the beach. The ocean and swaying, palm trees and toes in the sand. What you may not know is that Mexican resorts offer a variety of options including traditional religious ceremonies in churches and chapels.

Brides and grooms who wish to include a religious church ceremony have some beautiful options for tying the knot. Whether Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, or Coptic, there is a perfect location to fill your needs. If you’re looking for a church or chapel to be a part of your destination wedding, check out our favorite options in the Mexican Caribbean!

Dreams Tulum Resort Chapel

This all-inclusive Dreams resort on the gorgeous beach of Tulum has striking Colonial architecture in their cozy chapel. It’s an intimate space with warm wood accents, wrought iron candelabras and a warm light. The Dreams Chapel is perfect for a small religious ceremony with your closest family and friends. Elisa and Philip’s wedding at Dreams Tulum was so romantic!

 Xcaret Park Wedding Chapels

Xcaret is found on the Riviera Maya, just south of Playa del Carmen. The famous eco-park Xcaret offers two different chapels for religious weddings. The Capilla de Guadalupe is an awe-inspiring space. The altar is set on a sacred cenote at the base of a Ceiba tree. The ceiba is known as the “tree of life” to the Mayans and also serves as a ladder to reach the heavens. Cenotes also have special meaning to the local culture. They are a portal to the underworld and a source of channeling gods. The stone stairs that lead to the cenote and the lighting creates an incredible ambiance. In the chapel pews, you’ll see guests already in attendance, including former president Porfirio Diaz and other important people from Mexico’s history.

The second onsite religious wedding venue is the St. Francis of Assisi Chapel. It is constructed of all natural materials of stone and wood. The big palapa is open to the air, it is a truly unique place to have a religious destination wedding. The St. Francis of Assisi Chapel is very popular for those looking for a Catholic ceremony for a Mexican church wedding location.

Barcelo Beach Resort Chapel

The Barcelo Resort in the Riviera Maya offers traditional religious services in their palapa-style church. It’s an impressive structure, surrounded by the beauty of the gardens, lush plants and fountains. Spacious and airy, weddings at the Barcelo Maya church have a tropical vibe with the formality of a church setting.

La Santa Cruz Chapel – El Pueblito Mayakoba

We love the boutique luxury and eco-friendly Mayakoba hotels. In the center of the Mayakoba hotels is “El Pueblito” designed in the style of the historic town squares of Mexico as seen in Colonial Merida and San Miguel de Allende. At the heart of El Pueblito is the main plaza and the beautiful white Catholic chapel “La Santa Cruz”. There is a bridal dressing room next to The Santa Cruz Chapel for getting ready on your wedding day.

Destination wedding ceremonies can be held in the chapel or outside in the the main plaza. The Santa Cruz Chapel is a sophisticated venue for a traditional, religious ceremony. The luxurious golden interior provides and intimate atmosphere but is large enough to seat 104 guests. The main plaza of El Pueblito has more than 1,000 square feet of usable space and is an incredible venue for wedding ceremonies and destination wedding receptions and would also be an amazing venue for a rehearsal dinner.

El Pueblito is accessible from all three of Mayakoba’s luxury hotels— Banyan Tree, Fairmont, and Rosewood.

Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen

The little white rendered, colonial style chapel in the heart of Playa del Carmen is an iconic location. Nuestra Señora del Carmen is right next to the Parque Fundadores and the famous “Mermaid Arch” (officially known as the Portal Maya). It’s a cool calm and “real” local chapel with daily services that also is a wedding venue.

The fun of Nuestra Señora del Carmen’s location comes with the juxtaposition of the downtown chaos and the calm of the

The Grand Palladium Catholic wedding of Evelyn and Logan was a formal, family affair and the Riviera Maya Catholic destination wedding of Sabrina and Rui was a whole lot of fun!

Grand Sirenis Beach Chapel

The Grand Sirenis resort has a spectacular palapa seaside chapel. It features a view of the Mexican Caribbean Sea and ocean breezes. Elegant yet natural, it’s a unique venue. we loved Xiomara and Oscar’s Grand Sirenis Church wedding. The Grand Sirenis church has a great location, steps to the beach, reception palapa and on-site disco, perfect for the afterparty!

Our Lady of Paradise – Iberostar Paraiso Maya

Iberostar’s cute chapel “Our Lady of Paradise” offers lots of light with big windows and hues of copper and orange give this chapel a very warm and happy feeling in photographs. We  love the wedding of Steve and Jenna and would like to highlight the red rose petals on the aisle and the altar.

JW Marriott Cancun Chapel

The JW Marriott Resort in Cancun’s chapel is a modern space, white on white with a floor to ceiling window offering a view of the sea. It is an intimate space, ideal for small weddings with your closest family and friends.

In a gazebo by the sea with windows all around offering incredible views, brides and grooms can exchange vows in their religious traditions in this modern yet natural environment. See Amanda and Jason’s Orthodox Coptic Christian wedding in the Hard Rock Rivera Maya San Charbel Chapel

Royalton Riviera Cancun Chapel

The Royalton Riviera Cancun have amazing beach and “sky terrace” wedding venues. They really outdid themselves with the ultra modern architecture of their on-site chapel! The angular wooden structure is accented with bright yellow geometric frames which are illuminated at night time. A truly show stopping location for a destination wedding.

“We chose the Royalton Riviera Cancun chapel because of the beautiful wedding pictures we’d seen at that location. My father said he loved my wedding venue choice so much that he was naming his first grandchild little Royalton!” – See Marisol’s Royalton Riviera Cancun Chapel wedding

Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel – Hyatt Zilara and Gran Caribe Real

This stunning chapel is part of the Real Resorts in Cancun.

It is open to guests of the Hyatt Zilara (formerly The Royal Cancun) an the Gran Caribe Real. The chapel is elevated above the beach and offers incredible views of the Mexican Caribbean Ocean. The glass walls allow brilliant natural light to shine in while the air conditioning keeps you cool. Our Lady of Guadalupe Cancun weddings are chic while traditional, it’s one of the most popular sites for Catholic destination weddings!
