Cenote Mayan Wedding and Trash the Dress – Erika and Nathan
“I love being in the water… If I had one wish, no joke, I would wish to be a mermaid. To be able to get the chance to have this photo shoot is something I couldn’t have imagined let alone it become reality.” – Erika
Every destination wedding is different, but Erika and Nathan knew they wanted an even more different wedding. They were looking for an epic location with a beautiful backdrop, jungle, rock, beach or ruins… they went through four travel agents trying to find the perfect location.
“We have always had the same idea of a destination wedding in an area that will wow us. I didn’t just want water in the background… I didn’t want the hotel wedding on the beach with just a couple pieces of cloth in front of the ocean. I told them we were looking for some scenery in the background of the ceremony so we could have amazing photos to share. Sabrina explained what a Cenote wedding was and that I could do a TTD session directly after. You wouldn’t believe how fast my heart started pumping when I seen the pictures! It was exactly what we imagined!” – Erika
To go with their atypical location Erika and Nathan chose a Mayan ceremony swapping sand ceremonies and unity candles for copal and flowers. In the Mayan ceremony the shaman offers copal which the bride and groom warm in their hands before throwing it in the fire. Copal resin is native to Mexico and Central America and was particularly sacred to the Mayan and Aztec peoples. Copal has been used as incense in religious and magical ceremonies for centuries and always creates an amazing atmosphere.
It means the world to us when we hear back from our couples and they take the time to tell us how much they loved their pictures and their Del Sol experience, thank you so much Erika for your awesome words!
“The pictures are amazing!! I can’t wait to see the rest! Both of you made the wedding so special! I wish I could have you guys around every day just to brighten it! My wedding party called you ninjas instead of photographers. It was really hard concentrating on the ceremony when I wanted to look up and see you in a tree or on top of the cave! I loved it! Thank you so much again… I will need to think of a reason to be able to have another amazing experience with both of you! :)” – Erika
