Elegant Mayan Wedding at Grand Coral Beach Club – Hannah and Randy

There are many different ways to get married, to celebrate love and symbolize commitment. We especially love to photograph Mayan ceremonies, not only do they pay homage to the culture of this part of Mexico, they include many beautiful and unique ways to symbolize the union of 2 people. Warming a piece of the ceremonial incense copal in the hands, throwing flowers as an offering to the ocean, placing cacao and corn necklaces around each others necks: these are all parts of the ceremony with individual significance, explained by the shaman as they happen.

“We chose a Mayan ceremony because we were looking for something that complimented a beach ceremony. We also really love the emphasis on nature and spirituality that a Mayan ceremony gives.

Grand Coral Beach Club provided the perfect backdrop for our ceremony. It is absolutely magical and provides the privacy that most resorts cannot. This was very important to us.” – Hannah

Despite some unconventional elements found in a Mayan wedding there is always a place for more well known elements like vows written by the bride and groom. No matter how many times we hear two people proclaiming love for one another it is always remains incredibly personal.

“Randy surprised me during the ceremony by reading his own vows, which I had no idea he was doing or was prepared for!  It was very emotional and something we will never forget.I would definitely encourage couples to write their own vows, or just speak them from the heart.   Nothing you say at that moment can be wrong because there is so much love all around.” – Hannah
