Rainbow Day – Same Sex Wedding Hyatt Ziva Cancun
David and Jordan had a day of rain and shine! No matter what the weather throw at them they had the best attitude and were the happiest couple all day long. Mother Nature gave them the best gift for their Wedding Day…. A RAINBOW!!
“UNBELIEVABLE!!! Never in a million years did we think a rainbow would appear during our wedding ceremony. It was so bright and vibrant. As you know, the rainbow is a symbol of the LGBTQ community and it symbolizes our pride. We wish we had the words to describe how lucky and happy we are to have had a rainbow. After seeing the rainbow, we didn’t care about anything else…. We were happy! … Besides, we like it wet and wild!”
Del Sol: It’s amazing LOVE brought you here! Why did you did a Destination Wedding?
“We chose a destination wedding because some of our family members never flew on an airplane, never traveled outside of the United States and never had a passport. Traveling to a foreign place (or trying something new) can be intimidating, but richly rewarding. We wanted our guests to discover something new and try something different. .”
“Cancun is a beautiful place and we knew our guests would have a fun time that they would never forget. Jordan’s favorite quote is: “Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains.” We wanted our guests to break free from their chains, get a passport, fly on airplane, celebrate with us, and pursue happiness.”#Travelforlove
“Also, coming from the Chicago area, we knew that a week of warm, sunny weather would be a wonderful break from the cold dreary weather at home.”
Del Sol: Did anyone say anything especially touching?
“We had the pleasure of Jessica, Jordan’s younger sister, officiating our wedding. This was very special for us because just over a month earlier, Jordan presided over Jessica’s wedding. It was great to be involved in both weddings, and to see each of them try to outdo the other. The jury is still out on who did a better job.” – David
Del Sol: We were really struck by your togetherness! You got ready together, entered the ceremony together…
“As a gay couple we like that we can get away with breaking the norm. For us, getting ready together, and walking down the aisle, arm in arm, was a symbol of our togetherness.”
“In our relationship, we share everything with each other, and we didn’t want our wedding day to be any different. We decided to make the ceremony about our journey together—and like any good journey, it is more enjoyable when you get to share it with the person you love!”
Del Sol: How was your experience with del Sol team?
“We couldn’t have asked for a better team! All of our guests commented on how professional and skilled the team at Del Sol Photography is. They really put everybody at ease, and they flawlessly adapted to the changing environment, from sunset, to the rain, and last minute venue changes, their creativity shined through it all.”
Del Sol: How was your destination wedding experience as a same sex couple in the Riviera Maya?
“The morning after our wedding, we were stopped by several hotel guests who congratulated us and showed us photos they took of our wedding from their balcony. Later in the day, we were approached by some more guests at the hotel (including other gay couples) who stopped to congratulate us.”
“We found Cancun be welcoming and gay-friendly. Our advice to lesbian and gay couples: get married at the Hyatt Ziva in Cancun and hire del Sol!”
Del Sol: Why did you choose Hyatt Ziva?
“The Hyatt Ziva is in the best location in Cancun—at the point of the hotel zone, where it is surrounded by water.”
“The resort offered several options for the wedding venue (cliff-side gazebo, beach, rooftop terrace, etc.). The resort is clean and high-class. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We especially enjoyed working our wedding coordinator, Maria, who made sure that we had a great reception, despite the rain causing some last minute changes.”
Del Sol: What was the most amazing moment of your day?
“After over a year of planning and rushing to get things together, seeing such a vibrant rainbow over our ceremony was such an amazing moment. We saw it as a blessing, and a sign that somebody out there was watching out for us.”
“Working with the Photographers of del Sol was also an amazing experience. We enjoy photography and it was inspiring to see how much they love their work. Our guests had very nice things to say about the team at del Sol…they are the best of the best!
