“Although vows are words from the heart I really wanted to make sure I didn’t screw them up at the alter. Despite having a very untraditional wedding, the tradition of taking vows was a very meaningful beginning to our new lives together as husband and wife. The moment was surreal and emotional. Lisa looked so beautiful it was hard to concentrate. I cheated and used the paper a couple times but I made it through fairly unscathed.” – Adam
#NoPressure ! Writing and reading personal wedding day vows can be intimidating (so much so that you practice over and over on the way to the wedding – ahem – Adam!). Lisa and Adam both wrote their own vows – on of the many personal and thoughtful touches in their tropical chic beach wedding!
“We’ve always wanted to write our own vows. We both felt no one else’s words could describe the other person because we truly know each other best. We wanted to make unique promises to each other that were specific to us as a couple.” – Lisa
Lisa: “I spent a few mornings during the week in Mexico before the wedding while Adam was still asleep putting my thoughts together and trying to make them concise and thoughtful, which I hope I did.”
“While I was saying my vows to Adam, it just felt right. It was like no one else was on the beach and it was just the two of us. My biggest concern was, tears and I thought I would cry a lot more. Luckily my adrenaline was pumping and although I teared up a few times I managed not to ruin my makeup.
Since both of you work in reality TV how was it it to be the center of attention?
“I think we both have our moments where we enjoy being the center of attention since we are both extremely outgoing people. However, being on the opposite end of the camera was weird. For us, we are generally having a good time if we know the people around us are having fun. It was nice to put all the focus on each other on the wedding day. Hopefully we weren’t as crazy of some of the people who have been in front of our cameras!”
How was your experience with the del Sol team?
“Sol has the most amazing energy. I really have no words to describe how happy I was to have such positivity radiating around me during my hair and makeup session. At the wedding I felt so confident seeing the entire team hard at work, while remaining invisible and not interfering with the party.” – Lisa
Adam: “I love photography. It’s a big part of my life both at work and for pleasure. I was nervous that finding the right photographer was going to be a major task. We came across del Sol when we were searching for venues early on and the photos grabbed me immediately.
“I would liken Del Sol’s style to street photography more than event photography. In a word, ‘moments’. Moments happen once and happen fast, and how and IF they are captured makes the difference between a photographer and a great photographer!” – Adam
Adam: “We ended up using the del Sol archives to find our venue. While going through it became apparent that as talented as Sol is, she is surrounded by a number of very talented photographers. My comfort level couldn’t have been any higher and it was by far the easiest decision we had to make during our planning.”
We LOVE your wedding decor – from the bridesmaids dresses to the reception decor you did a great job!
Lisa: “Thank you! I always thought wedding planning would be simple, especially being a producer. But I found even though I’ve done a lot of planning for work, I’ve never felt the same pressure as I did to make everything perfect for us and for all our guests who traveled so far.”
“I have always imagined that my wedding would take place on a beach even before I had a groom. A few years ago when Adam and I vacationed in Mexico we ate at a restaurant that had palms displayed on the table. I remember thinking that day I want my wedding to be laid back, secluded, romantic and surrounded by palm trees, both growing out of the ground and displayed on the table.”
“Of course Pinterest helped bring my tropical romantic vision all together and I found various photos that really suited our style and matched our theme that I sent to Joyce, our planner. After telling my maid of honor I didn’t want a typical bridesmaid dress, but one that had a pattern and fit the vibe of the location, she found the perfect one for my bridal party from Show Me Your MuMU.”
Del Sol: Tell us about going the independent route – having your wedding outside an all inclusive and having an independent wedding planner.
Lisa: “Adam and I planned our wedding remotely from New York. We were originally looking for hotels in the Quintana Roo area since we had both enjoyed our time there before. After tirelessly searching websites, reading reviews and analyzing photos we kept feeling like the resorts were falling short of what we wanted most: an intimate, private celebration.”
“We wanted to give our guests the opportunity to something to see outside the confines of the resort walls.” – Lisa
“In our search we consistently came across beautiful photos taken by Del Sol photographers and stumbled upon Blue Venado Beach Club. It appeared to have everything we wanted and we took a chance and booked it without seeing it in person. We liked that both the ceremony and reception were in the sand. We really wanted to be able to kick back and have a good time in a laid back environment so it checked all the boxes.”
“Joyce was great to work with. I can admit I was a bride that knew exactly what I wanted and how I wanted it so I had extremely specific instructions for how I wanted everything to look and feel and Joyce executed everything flawlessly. We were so happy with all the vendors she chose that made our vision come to life, plus it was a huge relief not to think of all the minor details and know they were being handled.”
Del Sol: why did you Travel for Love?
“We decided to have a destination wedding because we’ve attended a few of our friend’s destination weddings and really loved the vibe. We loved that all our friends and family would get a chance to get to know each other and different groups of friends from different parts of our lives would have the opportunity to mingle and come together for the same reason. Plus we loved the idea of making the wedding more of a multi day event, instead of just attending the wedding and just driving home after.”
