Beach Wedding at Belmond Maroma – Angie and Greg
“Our families are very important to us both. The marriage is not only between us, but also represents our respective families coming together and uniting.” – Angie
We love to see all the ways couples choose to symbolize coming together. Angie and Greg chose handfasting for their unity ceremony. A handfasting ceremony consists of family members literally tying the couples hands together. It’s a historical term for “betrothal” or “wedding”and it’s where we get the expression “tying the knot” from!
“We didn’t choose the traditional “unity candle” as the ceremony was on the beach. It may of been difficult with the wind! We liked the “handfasting” because it represents us “tying the knot” which goes with the rest of our wedding theme on the beach. Also having our mother’s involved (representing each of our families) in uniting us and our families.” – Angie
We are big fans of couples who include their family and friends in their wedding ceremonies. Angie and Greg had their mothers perform their handfasting unity ceremony and their siblings were right up in the action with them.
“We wanted an intimate wedding, we both have a lot of family and friends and we deliberately choose to keep it on the smaller and more intimate side, with those closest to us. We’re very close with our immediate family, they are very important to us.
“We wanted the ceremony to be meaningful to us, to be special and intimate. That’s why we chose to have our siblings stand by our sides as we profess our love for each other and exchange our matrimonial vows.”
“Greg’s brother was our officiant. We choose to write our own vows, and we both kept them secret from each other. They were so heartfelt and sentimental and special to us, as was the entire day.”
The Belmond Maroma has some of the lushest gardens with an amazing fountain just in front of the lobby. The beaches are perfect powder sand. Angie and Greg best describe why the Belmond Maroma was THE choice for their destination wedding.
“The Belmond is such a special place! It is breathtaking with spectacular grounds, views and beach area. We choose the Belmond because it is elegant and luxurious on spectacular grounds. The beach is wide, with the softest white sand. The rooms are set in the rain forest/jungle setting, making it so unique and warm. It’s not a huge hotel, making it intimate and just perfect for our wedding. And the staff were all so warm and welcoming and lovely!”
“We absolutely loved the Belmond and are so happy we choose it as the place we tied the knot!”
