Dreams Tulum Wedding – “On the day Chelsea and Jake had their legal vows in Texas, my thoughts were: “May your marriage be as perfect as this day” and thus was my toast. But the day, like marriage, had a little rain, a lot of wind, a few lost or forgotten items… that we embraced and overcame with laughter. As well as sunshine, scenic landscapes, lost items that were found, an angel, and a ladybug.”

Have a look at Chelsea and Jake’s beautiful trash the dress “Couple Boudoir session” after their wedding.

“The beauty of the moments were peppered with inevitable imperfections… just like life. Doesn’t this demonstrate that everything is simply a matter of perception?”
– Denise, Chelsea’s Mom

Keeping a sense of what’s really important on you wedding day may be a challenge for some bride(zillas!) Chelsea’s story and the love and beautiful words that were spoken on her and Jake’s day are a reminder of what it really means to keep a sense of perspective. We asked Chelsea to share her reflections with us.

“My experience battling cancer has changed my view on most things in my life, and this day was no different. I felt like a beautiful princess, thanks to an enormous amount of pampering, hair work, makeup, and a gorgeous dress… but there were times in my life when I have looked in the mirror and saw a beat-down, bald, exhausted woman staring back at me.

“I don’t take for granted the fact that I was able to look the way I did for my wedding. I’m so appreciative that right now I’m healthy and happy, that I have a full head of hair and eyelashes. I’m appreciative that I lived to see my wedding day. I don’t take any day for granted, this was just a particularly great day to remember.” – Chelsea

Del Sol: Why did you decide to have a destination wedding?

“Jake and I wanted a small ceremony, just family and close friends. And we wanted to go somewhere beautiful and relaxing, as well. A destination wedding ticked off all of those boxes for us. Mexico is an easy trip for us, as most of us traveled from Texas, and Tulum gave us that exotic, jungle feel we wanted. It was a fantastic, memorable, and romantic trip that we will never forget.

Del Sol: It was super touching that Jake’s father was you officiant, talk to us about that?

“This was a last minute, but natural decision. We legally married in the US before traveling for our destination ceremony, and Jake’s father officiated that very small ceremony that consisted of just us and our parents. When we arrived to the resort, we realized that we wanted someone that knew us to officiate this ceremony as well. Since Jake’s father already had practice doing our ceremony once, it was easy for him to make the changes we needed for the larger ceremony and he did a fantastic and personable job! We were so thankful that he agreed to do it for us!”

Del Sol: Was there a part of each others’ vows that touched you?

“We had decided beforehand not to write our own vows for this ceremony, but Jake surprised me with a letter he had written, and intended for me to read, before the ceremony while I was getting ready. Apparently he decided he instead wanted to read it out loud to all of our guests during the ceremony! It was an unexpected, but very touching surprise. I believe I was not the only one with tears in my eyes…”

Del Sol: What was the most amazing moment of your day?

“Right before I walked out, I was completely alone in a hallway waiting for the wedding planner to retrieve me and give me my cue to walk out. I had a few moment to myself to reflect, get excited, and even get a little nervous.”

“When she told me it was time and I stepped outside, I think my heart was beating a thousand beats a minute. But as soon as I stepped into the aisle and saw Jake, I felt at peace. He was, of course, already crying his eyes out as I came down the aisle…so I focused on him and tried to hold back my own tears as I walked down to meet him. I don’t think I’ll ever forget those moments.”

Del Sol: How was your experience with Sol and the del Sol team?

“Sol and Vanessa were awesome. I told Sol up-front that we would need a lot of direction, as we don’t do photo shoots very often. She helped put us in the exact positions she needed us to be in and was practically invisible during the ceremony and reception. We went during the cocktail hour to do some fun shots on the beach and around the resort, as well.”

Del Sol: Why did you choose Dreams Tulum?

“After lots of research, we decided we wanted our ceremony to be in Tulum. We wanted a more exotic and remote location on the coast of Mexico. Dreams turned out to be the exact perfect location for our needs. It was family-friendly, as some of our guests had small children, provided plenty of entertainment, good food, and was a completely relaxing joy for all of our guests and ourselves.”

Del Sol: What’s your top destination wedding advice?

“Get a good wedding planner, haha! We were fortunate Dreams provided such a fantastic planner for us in Nayeli. If there were any problems or glitches that happened along the way to our perfect ceremony, I never knew about any of it. She planned and executed our wedding exactly the way I designed it!”

Huge congratulations to Chelsea and Jake, last words have to go to Denise:

“As we celebrate the wedding and marriage of Chelsea and Jake, I wish my warrior princess — who was born with a spirit of pure enlightenment, the gifts of innate creativity and brainpower and an attitude of courageous optimism — who has taught me more than I ever taught her, as well as shaped my life vision — AND  her tenacious, exuberant, brilliant and handsome prince — who has filled his parents hearts with pride and joy– a life of eternal happiness, endless laughter and never-ending love that deepens and grows as each year passes.”

“With heartfelt wishes for the gift of positivity that allows them to always be able to see the rainbows that follow life’s little sprinkles and showers, revealing the silver lining of the clouds. Always remaining deeply grateful for, and never forgetting to bask in the days blessed with the sunshine of their love. Let us celebrate another perfect day in the eyes of the beholders!” – Denise
