Spectacular Hindu Wedding at Grand Velas Riviera Maya – Karen and Chuck

Karen and Chuck had not one but TWO spectacular weddings at the luxurious Grand Velas Riviera Maya! They chose to have a wedding honoring the Hindu traditions of Chuck’s family in the gardens of Grand Velas, followed the next day by a Christian beach ceremony.

Hindu wedding are amazing events to document. They are full of colors, details and many meaningful traditions. The “Baraat” is the all-singing all-dancing wedding procession, an Indian tradition where the groom and his family would travel to the Bride’s village with dancing and music. What a great way to arrive to any wedding! Other traditions include Hasta Melay (joining of hands), Granti Bandham (tying of the Knot) and Vivah Havan (the sacred Fire).

Perhaps the most sacred and meaningful tradition is Saptapadi, the Seven Sacred Steps, symbolizing the bride and groom’s life journey together.

Karen and Chuck’s seven steps were made rolling seven betel nuts under their toes. Each “step” is a vow that seals the marriage. Respect, honor, strength, prosperity, wisdom, family, health, affection and a lasting companionship.

We were so fortunate to share both wedding celebrations with Karen and Chuck and we are thrilled to receive this wonderful message from Karen:
