Jewish Wedding Paradisus Playa del Carmen
“Our willingness to write our own stories allows us to live our fairy tale.”
Every couple has a unique couple style. 2 unique personalities combine to create a third, awesome entity! We love Lexy’s MOH toast which says a lot about this amazing couple:
“I have had the unique experience of watching this relationship from the inside. You meet Simon, then you meet Lexy, and from first impressions you would think “never would I match these two up together. But when you get to know Simon and when you get to know Lexy individually you see that they speak the same love language – they receive and they give love the same way, which makes them a perfect couple.”
We asked Lexy and Simon to talk to us more to us about their combined awesomeness and their amazing wedding day!
“Lexy couldn’t be with someone that couldn’t keep up with her intellectually, emotionally, and psychologically. Simon has an unconditional heart, and recognizes the beauty of how he was raised, and sees the way he want to be better. Lexy feels like she sees all the ways that things could’ve been different in her life, and she chooses to live that with Simon. Our willingness to write our own stories allows us to live our fairy tale.”
Del Sol: Simon you defiantly got a ton of brownie points for your beautiful surprise gift for Lexy – then surprising her again with your vows in Portuguese!
“Lexy deserves the world, and more. When the idea of giving wedding gifts came up, I did not like it. Lexy actually gave me her gift before we left the states. I did not think that the gift Del Sol and I came up with was actually a gift. I thought of it more on the lines that it was a gift for the both of us, and it was special to me that she get to open them and see them before we got married.”
“A few months before the wedding, we were separated due to my academics. I was in Miami while she was in Dallas. I had a lot of time to think and write my vows. During my time in Miami, I met a person that was fluent in Portuguese. So after I used google translate for the English vows, I asked my friend to check the grammar, and I also recorded my friend speaking the vows, so I could learn the accents.”
“For me, the Russian lifestyle wasn’t everything. I never lived in Russia, but we did speak the language at home.”
“Lexy lived, learned, and loved everything Brazil. I wanted her to know that I love everything about her, even if she curses me out in Portuguese!”
Del Sol: Lexy – you were a whole emotional roller coaster in the best possible way – bouncing from soulful tears to proper LOLs!
“Simon never wants to do photos. When I brought up the engagement pictures, it wasn’t a priority to him, but knew how special it was to me. Just like I said I wanted the best photographer, he made sure that it was in the budget. It was his idea to do engagement pictures as a gift to me. He hates being dressed and bought clothes for that day, he hates being in the spotlight, and exposing himself that way. He did all of it to make me happy.”
“On the wedding day, he made a canvas of one of my favorite pictures. The thing is, I never told him which one was my favorite, nor did I tell him that I wanted one on canvas. But he just knows me so well, that he read my mind.”
“My frustration was not being able to do the same for him on camera, because no one got to see my gift to him, which was very thoughtful and kind, but my gift to him ultimately was allowing him his privacy.”
Del Sol: We love the mix of it all on the wedding day – formal Jewish traditions, Portuguese vows, long wedding veil worn with blue hair and tattoos…! Talk to us about the whole melting pot experience that created a unique wedding day!
“We only plan to get married once. We genuinely believe we met our life partner. So when it came to celebrating our love, we wanted to encompass all that we are. We’re part traditional, with conservative upbringings. We are part artsy, with the flair of those things colorful and free. We are very much family and inclusive. So we wanted everyone to understand our love, regardless of any language barrier there may be. We wanted our love to be universal, our wedding included people from all walks of life, and we wanted them to feel a part of our family, because they are.”
Del Sol: Was there a part of each others’ vows that touched you?
Lexy: “The Portuguese Part,”
Simon: The promise of forever.
Del Sol: Talk to us about the importance of including the Jewish Wedding traditions in your wedding day.
“Simon promised his parents that he would marry someone Jewish. Lexy had converted to fulfill this promise to them. At first, it was met with resistance by the family because she was not pure blood, but ultimately they accepted her, they saw her soul.”
Del Sol: How was your experience with the del Sol team?
“Words don’t surmount to our experience with Del Sol. Exceptional.”
“We have been in communication with Del Sol continuously since January (August wedding). Anything and everything we requested from them, was not only met and accepted, they went out of their way to exceed any and all expectations. Polly and her crew took some incredible candid photos, and we didn’t even know they were there. The imagination and creation of beautiful photos by the team has made every picture worth MORE than a 1000 words.”
Del Sol: Why did you choose Paradisus?
“There were many factors for a destination wedding. A key factor for the decision outside of the United States was so that Lexy’s family from Brazil could attend our wedding, without having to go through the hassle of applying for visas and what not.”
“Jaime and the gang were amazing. From the first look to the day we left from Paradisus, we communicated with them almost daily. Paradisus is beautiful. So many different venues, and activities for any guest. They were able to offer separate things for our family orientated guest and our couple orientated guests, and for one night, they joined together for our special day. Polly had nothing but great things to say about Paradisus when we first met her in January, and her expertise as a local was calming, when we had no one else to rely on.”
Del Sol: How was your experience in Mexico – bearing in mind the current travel advisories against Mexico?
“We reminded people that they were staying at a five star resort. As soon as you exit the resort, its a different experience. Some chose to stay in the safety of the resort, while others ventured out with tour groups or individually. We rented a car and drove around Rivera Maya, and did not have a single issue. As a matter of fact, one of our guests dropped his wallet at night in Downtown Playa, and it was returned to him the next day by a good Samaritan, who happened to see the Paradisus room key in his wallet.”
