“Neither of us has really ever traveled out of the country, so we wanted to share the experience together”

Eloping – just you and your loved one going away to say I do – is an amazing reason to travel and discover new parts of the world. You get to leave behind the potential chaos and cost of planning a huge celebration back home. Most important though, an elopement gives you time, energy, and space to focus on your partner and your relationship.

If you’re planning to elope in Mexico, Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita is an incredible destination. The luxurious boutique property is designed to feel like a cozy, exclusive hotel. Attention to detail and amazing service is all part of the experience.

As a photographer, being part of an elopement is an honor – you, the planner, and the officiant might be the only witness to the exchange of love! We visited by many birds and even a swimming bouquet! I (Matt) left the flowers carefully positioned near the edge of the pier…  next thing you know they were swimming!  Polly came to the rescue and fished the bouquet out of the ocean.  As many of life’s moments go with imperfections, we must be reminded to take everything in our stride. We asked Jorie to tell us more about her reflections on their day.

Colors and more colors… Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita has beautiful colors everywhere.

Del Sol:  You guys were especially special and you chose to elope – you left kids and family at home to focus on the 2 of you.

“We decided to elope in Mexico because we really wanted to focus on us, spending the time together to relax and enjoy the moment.” – Jorie

“We love our kids and family, but kids aren’t the most relaxing people to vacation with!  This was also our honeymoon, so we felt it was the best choice for us.”

Del Sol: What was the most memorable moment of your day? We loved that you guys didn’t prepare vows but your officiant DID ask you to close your eyes, be together then speak from the heart!

“There were so many amazing moments of our day, it’s hard to choose! Probably the vows during the ceremony top the list.”

“It’s hard for both of us to plan romantic things to say to each other, especially in the presence of others! We are much better at saying meaningful things to each other as we feel the, so the way our officiant approaches our vows was perfect.”

Del Sol: How was your experience with Matt and the del Sol team?

“Matt and Polly were the absolute best! They were extremely professional and at the same time made it feel like we were all great friends having an amazing time! They went above and beyond expectations to get the perfect shots and make sure we were comfortable.”

Del Sol: Why did you choose Zoetry?

“All of the Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita wedding team and staff were extremely attentive. But our wedding planner Faride was by far our favorite person at Zoetry.” – Jorie

“We were looking for a resort with a good amount of privacy. We didn’t want to feel like we were sharing our honeymoon/wedding with a bunch of strangers, especially considering we’d left the kids and family behind for this experience! Hannah at Legacy Travel, who recommended Zoetry, was there anytime we needed her with questions. That included a few texts to her during our stay, to which she responded within a few minutes. She was absolutely fantastic!”

Del Sol: How was your experience in Mexico – bearing in mind the current travel advisories against Mexico?

“We stayed at the resort the entire trip, with the exception of a couple water excursions, but that was due to just us not wanting to do it, rather than any safety concerns. We felt very safe and secure at Zoetry.”

The construction and architecture at Zoetry is amazing

In summary, we want to take a second to reflect on some words from a recent 10 year vow renewal from my dear friends Tracy and Justin.  After 10 years, 3 children, Tracy had great advice!  We like when couples take time to treat themselves (knowing they have kids and they also need their time too.) Taking time for each other, like Jorie and KC, is an investment in your relationship and crucial for the success of the marriage.

“Marriage deserves the same INTENTION as does the raising of kids.  It NEEDS time and devotion in order to THRIVE. Marriage deserves to be treated as sacred, because it IS!!” Marriage deserves respect that comes from outwardly CHOOSING EACH OTHER over ALL THE THINGS, to include our kids.  It’s crucial.  A true NEED.”

“Saying “I do” does not end with a white picket fence around your home, melting your troubles away.  Just as having children gives you a responsibility and honor, so does marriage.” Tracy
