Hacienda Uayamon Wedding – Jacquie and Matt
“We just liked the idea of running away and getting married, and that it would be more romantic if it was just the two of us” – Jackie
After having traveled extensively through Asia together, Mexico was a new frontier for Jackie and Matt, especially as they come from Western Australia.
“As we’re both private people and we love to travel, an elopement made perfect sense to us!”
“It also gave us the best of both worlds – a beautiful, memorable wedding experience that satisfied our wanderlust. We thought Mexico would offer elements similar to the very best of our Asia experiences: amazing food and people, a rich history, beautiful ruins, and so on… it certainly delivered all of this and more!”
Jacquie and Matt chose the rural luxury hotel Hacienda Uayamon in Campeche. A colonial property built in 1700, the Hacienda oozes atmosphere and combines rustic, antique beauty with luxurious service and accommodation. The Hacienda hits the sweet spot between embracing the ravages of time and keeping the jungle at bay. The grounds look like a movie set or a painting – magical.
The Hacienda Uayamon’s ruined chapel was the unique and mystical location for Jackie and Matt’s wedding ceremony.
“Matt and I wanted our wedding to be a little different to the many beach weddings we’d seen, we wanted it to have the same relaxed feel, but in a private romantic setting surrounded dense green foliage and history! Similar to a beautifully romantic picnic we had experienced at the ruin of Angkor Watt in Cambodia.”
The day after the wedding Jacquie, Matt, and the Del Sol team set out for a portrait session around the grounds of the Hacienda before venturing into the colorful town of Campeche.
“Our favorite parts of our Campeche adventure were getting to walk on top of the old city wall surrounding Campeche and being serenaded by a Mariachi band in a jam-packed authentic Mexican cantina. Not to forget that after a full day of exploring with the Del Sol team they captured us cooling off in the Hacienda’s swimming pool at the end of the day!”
“Sol took us to a few places in Campeche we wouldn’t have had access too or wouldn’t have even known about without their local knowledge.”
It’s always a privilege to be invited to document a wedding day, and even more so when we are photographing and elopement with only the bride and groom!
“Despite not having any guests at our wedding, we were both surprisingly nervous! The Del Sol team helped us relax and just enjoy the moment, so much so that we didn’t even notice it was raining and that the ceremony needed to be delayed!”
Jackie and Matt’s advice to other couples thinking about an elopement – Just do it!
“Just do it! It’s your wedding day and it’s about the two of you! It’s incredibly personal and makes each other the only thing that matters, which is how it should be!”
