Tulum Boutique Villa Wedding – Ashley and Dan
“I would highly encourage other brides and grooms to enjoy a vastly different perspective of this earth. Not only for the big day, but to experience and interact outside of your home country.” – Dan
There are many amazing locations for destination weddings in the Riviera Maya. It’s rare though that we’re asked to document a wedding in someones home in Mexico! Ashley’s parents have been living down here for the last 19 years! Mom Lisa opened the doors of their beautiful Casa Ki Mac Ool Nah for Ashley and Dan’s wedding ceremony. The party continued a few doors down at the gorgeous Villa Orquidea, in Tankah, Tulum. We asked Ashley and Dan to tell us more about their Tulum Boutique Villa Wedding and why, as locals, they chose to get married in Mexico!
“From a local standpoint, the culture alone would have you wanting to come back and explore so many different aspects of Yucatán Peninsula. Between the food, the surrounding adventures and plain beauty of the Caribbean is a book on its own.” – Dan
Del Sol: You had a load of family love surrounding you and a gorgeous setting. Tell us about the highlights of the day!
Dan: “My brother Chris leaned into me at the altar when Ashley met her dad on the top of the staircase and said, “she’s just as beautiful any other day, this is just with a fancy dress.” It held me together a bit up there!”
“Besides how incredible Ashley looked; Your creativity to find the angles and utilize every day objects to refract light in a certain way against the lens was awesome! It’s all in the details and thinking outside the box.”
“I loved when Dan was wrapping up his vows and proclaimed his love being more than all the sand in the sea, the stars in the universe, and all the bugs in the world. It’s something goofy and special we’ve always said to each other.” – Ashley
Dan: “The most amazing moment of your day was seeing everybody genuinely having a great time at the reception once the music got going and the dancing commenced.”
Del Sol: How was your experience with the del Sol team? We had the most fun with you guys, especially with the beautiful sky at sunset with the Mexican Flag flying in the wind from the rooftop!
Dan: “The rooftop experience was incredible! The glow of the sunset to get those shots was meant to be. It was fun that Matt went live on his Instagram and taught me some Mexican lingo.”
“The crew was great and communicated very well! I feel I’m biased for whom stood out due to being a freelance photographer myself! But Matt was hands down the man. Between his cool, outgoing personality and effort to get the shot, he went above and beyond.” – Dan
“Our advice to give to couples planning a wedding in the Riviera Maya or surrounding areas is to go with reputable vendors you know you trust and relax! It’s a vacation in itself, too!”
Del Sol: How was your experience in Mexico – bearing in mind the current travel advisories against Mexico?
“Don’t go looking for trouble and you’ll be fine!” Being a resident in Mexico for so long, we have never had any break-ins or trouble in the 19 years Ashley and her family have been in the Riviera Maya.” – Dan
