Mexican Vibe Destination Wedding – Valentin Imperial Maya – Steph and Todd
“I wanted a wedding with lots of Mexican vibe… less tradition, more my personality: romantic with a bit of rock and roll!”
“When I told my mom we were gonna have skulls she was really unsure. But that’s US, our personality and style so we did what we wanted and it all came together and looked gorgeous.”
“Since our wedding was so small I wanted something more intimate. Valentin Imperial Maya had the look I wanted: more traditional, a lot of restaurants and bars for my guests. The beach looked like a postcard! Walking anywhere was beautiful the way they have it set up and it was so romantic.
“we wanted it to look and feel like we were in our favourite place: MEXICO!”
“I’m a hairstylist and wanted to have unique hair without it being too bright, I thought the softer colours would go well with my theme. I love cathedral veils especially with the lace edging, they remind me of Mexico. I wasn’t sure about wearing a veil. I thought it may look too traditional for my venue and was told the wind would be an issue with it.”
“As we were about to leave I asked my bridesmaid if I should wear the veil, before she answered Sol said YES, wear it! I’m so happy I did! Who cares! When you’re getting married, if you like it wear it!”
“As I was walking down the aisle was one of my favourite moments from the day, my dad and I had such a special moment. He told me things that melted my heart. As we were walking down I thanked him for being my dad and raising me. He held me closer and said: of course, forever ❤️ “
“When I got around the corner and saw Todd and how handsome he looked the first few tears came… and seriously guys, I don’t cry!”
“Then I looked at each one of my guests. It was awesome because they were such a small group so I feel like I had a moment with each of them. I didn’t have any anxiety because it was all the closest people in my life.”
“I felt like I wanted to do something special to pay tribute to Todd’s parents and grandparents who have passed away. At the same time I didn’t want to do anything that would bring too much attention to the fact they weren’t there and make it more upsetting for Todd. I know people reserve chairs for the loved ones but I didn’t want us to see two empty seats and be sad, it’s supposed to be a happy day.
“Rachel pinned a gift from me, a picture of Todd’s mom and dad on their wedding day, over his heart. Todd was so happy, he said it was the best gift I’ve ever given to him. He had no idea I had gotten it and said it definitely hit some emotions.”
“No matter what, not having your mom or dad to do the traditional roles it’s gonna be hard. Try to think about how happy they are looking over you and they wouldn’t want you to be upset on your big day.”
“Our experience with the del Sol team was absolutely perfect! I think they have such creativity and worked with our crazy wedding schedule. I feel so lucky to have gotten Sol. All my guests were very impressed with her and her experience, she was very efficient!”
“What advice would we give to another couple planning a wedding in Mexico: DO IT! What better backdrop can you have than a beautiful beach, natural lighting and the Mexican laid back feeling :)”
“I’ve had so many friends debate it and end up getting married back in Canada to make everyone else happy. You can plan it as big or small as you like, we chose small because we wanted intimate and we are both a little shy haha. It was zero stress. Everything was taken care of, you get a wedding planner and they are so organized and get everything done. I had so many wishes and decorations and they all went off without a hitch. I trusted Leslie, the planner and she did a killer job at everything!”
“I felt so happy the whole day. Everything was so perfect and laid back. Todd and I are not sappy romantics at all and thought after getting married we would feel the same as before. Now being married feels special and celebrating with close friends and family just made the day feel unreal and made us feel closer as a couple.”
“Now we always punch our rings together for superpowers!”
“Seriously, everything was amazing! It was so stress free and I have a day full of the best memories! It was all my close friends and family and exactly what we wanted.”
