Mexico Chapel Weddings and Church Venues

Church and Chapel Wedding Venues in the Riviera Maya and Cancun

Even though the Mexican Caribbean is known for the beach, it’s also home to AMAZING venues for church and chapel weddings. Some, like Xcaret Park and Hotel Xcaret Mexico are exclusively for Catholic ceremonies. Others, like the chapel on the 5th Av Playa del Carmen, also offer Coptic, Orthodox and other religious wedding ceremonies.

While there are independent chapels that are part of authentic daily life, many resorts now have their own, on-site chapel. If you’re looking for a Chapel for your destination wedding, be sure to check out our post about the best Riviera Maya and Cancun Church wedding Venues.

Photography Considerations for Church and Chapel Weddings

As far as Mexico Chapel Weddings go, all religious and cultural ceremonies take longer than a “symbolic” desination wedding ceremony. A wedding with a Catholic mass can be 45 minutes to one hour, versus 15-30 minutes for a symbolic ceremony. That means you will need a longer photography coverage, we recommend that Chapel weddings start with 6 hours. While some resorts have their own chapels, other couples choose to get married off-site, that’s something else to factor in to your timeline and how long your photography team is with you. In some venue Church weddings are held at sunset, like Xcaret Park. In this case we highly recommend considering a “first look. Seeing each other before the ceremony will give you the opportunity to have “daylight wedding portraits” where you can see the blue ocean and sky. We love a good night portrait too but don’t miss the opportunity of a slice of Caribbean blue!
