Indian weddings are elaborate, full of details, color and tradition. Palka and Joseph traveled to the Riviera Maya to tie the knot and brought their Hindu traditions with them in a three day celebration of love surrounded by their families and friends. After a beautiful “mehndi” party where exquisite henna art was created on hands and feet symbolizing “awakening of the inner light”, the wedding party enjoyed the “pithi” and “grah shanti” ceremonies.
“Pithi” is a paste made of chick pea flour, turmeric, rose water and other ingredients, the golden concoction is applied to the face, arms and legs of the bride and groom to cleanse and purify them before the wedding ceremony. “Grah Shanti” is a brief ceremony where Lord Ganesh is invited to remove all obstacles from the couple and to bring them happiness and prosperity.
