Playa del Carmen Cave Wedding – Olga + Matthew
What do you think of when you imagine the Mexican Caribbean? White sand, blue water and probably margarita in your hand right? The Riviera Maya is (rightly) famous for its beaches, but there is a whole other side to be discovered.
Anyone who’s ever flown into Cancun can tell you that, apart from ocean, the view is dominated by lush green jungle. The foliage conceals hidden treasures: the cenotes. These mystical caverns are an integral part of ancient Mayan culture and mythology. They have an incredible and unique atmosphere.
Couples looking for something a little different would do well to consider a Mexico cave wedding!
Olga and Matthew worked with Del Sol fave wedding coordinator, Joyce Mnguni from Dream Weddings Riviera Maya. Together they designed a 100% cenote-themed wedding! Not only did they have their wedding ceremony in a cenote, they even had their reception in an underground cave – the Alux Restaurant.
The Alux restaurant is a unique wedding reception venue. Incredible lighting highlights stalactites. You literally eat, drink and dance the night away in a spectacular, natural cave!
Photographically the Alux Restaurant is a delight. The labyrinth of caverns combined with the moody club vibe presents a plethora of photo ops. From the chandeliers to the giant Kukulkan head out front there are endless options for unique wedding portraits.
A huge congrats to Olga and Matthew and of course GRACIAS for inviting us to be a part of their day!

For couples looking to go the independent route and have their wedding outside the confines of an all-inclusive resort we love the cenote wedding theme! Our fave cenotes for wedding ceremonies are within a half hour from Playa del Carmen and the Alux restaurant is in the downtown. Playa del Carmen itself therefore makes a great base of operations if you’re considering a Mexico Cave wedding. We highly recommend checking out our friends at El Taj Condo Hotel for accommodation.
We are so excited to publish our page about Riviera Maya Cenote weddings and Cenote Wedding Ceremonies. These pages showcase ALL the details involved and photos so you can dive in and empathize with the couples in the photos. They have real life testimonials and everything you need to know.See our Mexico Cave Wedding Archive for more gorgeousness.
