Candace and Rob have all the qualities that we LOVE in a couple. These two are travelers, not tourists. With their love of incorporating local culture in their travels and Rob’s background in archeology they opted for a unique wedding ceremony from the Riviera Maya. We asked them to tell us more about their amazing Dreams Tulum Mayan wedding.
Del Sol: why did you choose to have a Tulum Mayan Wedding?
“Overall, we love experiencing other cultures throughout our travels around the world and from that we decided on having a Tulum Mayan Wedding ceremony to reflect our love of archaeology and culture.”
“We both love to travel. We really enjoy incorporating the local culture into our travels whether that is by staying in a local home stay, eating at local restaurants or incorporating local culture into our experiences while we are in a destination. With our love of world culture and Rob’s background we thought it would be really neat to do something different and include it in our wedding.”
“I like doing things a little different than the expected norm, so a Mayan ceremony was a great and unique idea! Our guests absolutely loved the experience and judging by the reactions from the people staying on the resort, so did they! We thought the experience was really neat. Del Sol: Your vows were full of laughter!
“We actually did our full vows here in Calgary the week before. (Nov 3rd for being engaged for 3 years, and then got married in Mexico on Nov 13th for being together for 13 years).”
“During the Mayan ceremony when we did the ring exchange and then were asked to do vows, we both laughed and said something sweet to each other because we had already poured our hearts out the week before.”
Del Sol: why did we chose Dreams Tulum?
“The Mayan Riviera was the first international vacation that we ever took together, so we thought that it was fitting to get married there based on that. We ended up looking at almost every resort on the Mayan Riviera and comparing beach locations, wedding packages, and Mayan wedding ceremonies.”
“In the end we loved how the Dreams Tulum location, the beautiful quiet beach and the wedding packages were amazing. We found lots of great reviews and recommendations. The part that sold us was the endless wedding options, inclusions and wedding service.”

Del Sol: We absolutely love the Sunset Terrace at Dreams Tulum– why did you choose that location for the reception?
“When we first booked our wedding package, the sunset terrace wasn’t even an option, we were originally going to be poolside. Then when it became time to start choosing details with Dreams Tulum we learned about this location and fell in love with the pictures and idea of it.”
“Open Air, View of the ocean, Sea Breeze, could watch the sky change to a starry night. We are both so glad we got the Sunset Terrae for our wedding reception. It definitely stood out as unique. All the guests loved the view and how private the area was, including the ocean breeze at the edge during dancing.” – Candace
Del Sol: Most amazing moment of the day?
Rob: “Most amazing was how relaxing the day was with little to no stress! Also seeing Candace in her dress for the first time!” – Rob
“I loved the feeling of being in the hotel hallway beside the wedding ceremony location and hearing all of the drums and music – not knowing what to expect or what it looked like.” – Candace
“Then walking out to meet my Dad, then meeting Rob and seeing everything and everyone. It was magical!”

“Sol and Valeria were amazing to work with. We barely knew each other, other than from a few e-mails/phone conversations, but it was like we had known them for years.”
